Searching and comparing prices is what most smart travelers do. What
even smarter travelers do are the following things:
 use fare comparison sites
(also known as fare aggregators): these will display you a long list of
prices offered by major travel agents and airlines; you will choose what's
best for you
search for last minute flight deals:
because the prices drop
just prior to departure, this can save you as much as 60-70 %!
fly at night:
the prices are usually much smaller, but you might
find it unpleasant as airport connections get poorer at that time
check the promotional offers of travel agencies: even small
travel agents offer "mega price drops" - this means that to a small number
of destinations you will find very low prices, but then after a period,
they will offer other destinations at discounted prices... you can take
advantage of this and always (only) travel to the destinations to which
they offer cheaper tickets
check the low cost airlines:
tickets usually cost less, but
there are many additional fees and the airports are usually further away
from the cities and comfort is also poorer
