Washington D.C. (U.S.A.) Travel Directory

Washington D.C. (U.S.A.) Travel Directory

This city although it lies about 180 km (about 105 mi) inland, it has connection to the Atlantic Ocean through a vas number of canals, wide rivers. From this point of view, Washington D.C. resembles the nearby Baltimore and Philadelphia, located further up north.

This city was founded in 1790 and has already become the capital in 1800.

The population of central Washington is about 600.000, yet the metro region has 5,3 million (although this is a very broad area, stretching far more than just the urban agglomeration).

Attractions except the well-known U.S. Capitol, the White House, a number of memorials and historical-political monuments, are also the Chinatown, the Washington National Cathedral, the National Museum of the American Indian, the National Gallery of Art, the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center (original name of the Hungarian business man who created it is Udvarházy) - an air and space center (contains a number of airplanes, helicopters, space shuttle, etc. including Enola Gay and the NASA shuttle Enterprise) and other attractions...
