Veracruz (Mexico) Travel Directory |

![]() It is on the eastern coast of Mexico, where the waters of the Gulf of Mexico wash the shores in the central part of the country. Veracruz is a major port, an Atlantic gateway for trade and is also well connected with the roads of Mexico. The city has a population of about 500.000 people . Among the main attractions of Veracruz are the following: the City Museum, the Naval Museum, the Veracruz Cathedral, the military construction of El Baluarte de Santiago, also the fortress of San Juán de Ulua, then there also is an Aquarium where one can see fully grown sharks swim around, except these there is the La Antigua settlement about 25 km away from the port, Veracruz also has a wax museum (Museo de Cera). You should also take a walk in the historical center and see the Venustiano Carranza Palace (a white building with a tower, which is considered the main icon of Veracruz). Another hot attractions would be the ruined city of El Tajín, a bit further, accessible by road. It is worth visiting the city, even if most tourists overlook it, because they are strongly attracted by the notorious Cancún, Acapulco and Puerto Vallarta. Veracruz is not crowded with tourists and has less known, but very interesting attractions. |
