![]() Szeged is on the southeastern corner of Hungary and is one of the biggest cities in the country with about 170.000 inhabitants. The city is home to several famous universities and is famous its biotechnological institutes. Albert Szentgyörgyi, the nobel prize winner who discovered Vitamin C was born and studied is Szeged. Interestingly a number of remarkable medical and biological discoveries and inventions have their origin in this city. Among them was the discovery of the anti SARS vaccine. Today Szeged is a center for southeastern Hungary tourism. Many travelers who want to visit this part of the country, start out from Szeged. It's not just the city that is attractive, but also the surrounding towns, cities, villages and rural tourism facilities. So what can you see in Szeged and what else can you experience? This is a city with rich cultural life and beautiful old architecture. Most of the buildings are from the 19th, early 20th century. You will find beautiful churches, city squares, experience cultural events, taste spicy local foods. From the main architectural attractions, we should mention: the Szeged Dome, the Dömötör Tower (very old, first mentioned in 1199 AD), the Grey Friars Church (from the 1400s), the Water Tower, the Reök Palace, the Gróf Palace and many more! |
