Pinar del Río is the capital of the province with the same name. It is located in western Cuba.

About 150.000 inhabit the city of Pinar del Río, which was reviously called "Nueva Filipina" (or "New Philippine"). The Pinar del Río name cam in 1774. This was one of tha last major Spanish colonial cities in this country.

The sights around the city are especially beautiful, as many other parts of the province as well. One can admire the green landscape where tobacco plantations cover almost every flat land. Mountains, hills, cliffs can be seen in many places.

Some consider Pinar del Río the center of the Cuban cigar industry.
