2,6 million live in the central area and up to over 6 million are estimated to inhabit the metropolitan area of München, which is located on the banks of the River Isar, not far from the Bavarian Alps.

München or Munich, as the English-speakers call it is the capital of Bavaria and is one of Europe's richest cities.
