![]() The capital of Peru. Lima is the 5th largest Latin American city. It was founded by Francisco Pizarro in 1535 and it was initially called "Ciudad de los Reyes" ("City of Kings"). Today, Lima is a boasting metropolis with rich and poor neighbourhoods as well. It is economically powerful and rapidly evolving. 7,6 million live in the central area and about 8,5 million in the metropolitan zone. An immense metropolis indeed. Most travelers start their visit to Peru by flying in to Lima. It is a good idea indeed. Don't forget to visit the old colonial parts, as well as the modern Miraflores district. Lima has to offer modern and old as well.
