 The importance of the Belgian capital has risen since it is home to the European Union's Parliament and other important institutions of the "Old Continent". Very well-preserved old buildings and daring modern architecture are all contributing to the set of attractions of Brussels. 1 million live in the city itself, while the metro area reaches 1,8 million. It is a tolerant city where many cultures coexist, side by side. Mostly French and Dutch Belgians populate Brussels, but about 1/3 of the population is Languages used are primarily Belgian French and Brabantian Dutch are spoken, but English is widely understood. Admire Brussels when in Belgium, it is a city with plenty to offer. Make sure you spend at least 3 days to check out the museums and get a taste of the famous Belgian sweets... Don't forget to check out architect Victor Horta's beautiful Art Nouveau creations and the modern Atomium building that seems to defy the laws of physics. |
