 Barranquilla is a port city located on the Caribbean Coast. About the same size as the nearby Cartagena, Barranquilla too has intense beach life and is economically prosperous. It is also safer than Calí or Medellín. Port city and industrial city as well, it lies at a strategic location near the Magdalena River's delta. It is both a river and maritime transportation hotspot. The population is over 1 million. Today it is Colombia's 4th largest city, but it used to be the second (right after Bogotá). With all-year-round high temperatures and a rainy season only in August-October, it makes Barranquilla an ideal beach travel destination.
